Arrive and explore Patna's colonial-era buildings, the Golghar, and the Patna Museum housing the Didarganj Yakshi statue. Evening on the Ganges.
Full day exploring Patna's Sikh gurudwaras and Mughal-era monuments. Visit the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library — a rare repository of Arabic and Persian manuscripts.
Visit Vaishali in the morning. Drive to Muzaffarpur — famous for its sweet litchis. If in season (May–June), tour the fragrant orchards. Overnight Muzaffarpur.
Drive to Valmiki Tiger Reserve (Bihar's only national park). Jeep and elephant safaris in search of tigers, leopards, and sloth bears. Birdwatching along the Gandak river. 2 nights at forest lodge.
Long drive south or a connecting flight to Gaya. Reach Bodh Gaya by evening. Attend the lamp lighting ceremony at the Mahabodhi complex. Overnight Bodh Gaya.
Deep exploration of the international monastery zone. Afternoon at Mahakala Caves where Siddhartha meditated for 6 years before enlightenment. Overnight Bodh Gaya.
Drive to Rajgir — ropeway, hot springs, and the new glass-floor viewpoint at Vishwa Shanti Stupa. Afternoon at Nalanda ruins. Overnight in the area.
Morning at the sublime Jal Mandir in Pawapuri. Drive west to Sasaram to see the magnificent octagonal tomb of Sher Shah Suri — an underrated masterpiece that influenced the Taj Mahal's design.
Drive back to Patna (3.5 hrs). Optional morning stop at the Kumhrar excavations — remains of the ancient Pataliputra Mauryan palace. Departure flight.
